井上陽水はこの後、1977年に大麻不法所持で逮捕されますが（書類送検。取調室ではろくな取り調べも受けずサイン責めで困ったらしい）、この歌は、大麻を探して嗅ぎ回る警察を皮肉った歌だというわけです。そういわれてみると、「鞄の中も、机の中も探したけれど見つからない」とか、「夢の中へ行ってみたいと思いませんか」といった歌詞は、確かに大麻を探す警官に対する歌と解釈してもおかしくないですよね。
　さらに二番になるともっとはっきりしてきます。

休むことも許されず、笑うことは止められて、はいつくばって、はいつくばって、一体何を探しているのか。探すのをやめた時、見つかることもよくある話で、踊りましょう、夢の中へ行ってみたいと思いませんか。

　といった具合なのです。ますますそれっぽい歌にきこえてきますでしょう？
